Wilderness Beach, last light 🌅 The tide had just turned. A whole day of footprints was still in the sand, the wind was pulling the surface into a haze along the shoreline, and there was nobody else on the beach.

This is the hour we keep telling visitors about. Wilderness beach is a short walk from the village, there is no entry fee, and the light does the rest — go late, when the wind starts to drop and the sand goes gold. Bring a jacket: the sea air cools fast once the sun is behind the dunes.
If you are coming to Wilderness
- Best time: the last hour before sunset.
- Where: the main beach at the village, plus the long stretch towards the Touw River mouth.
- Bring: a windbreaker, water, and something to sit on — you will stay longer than you planned.
- While you are here: the lagoon, the Kingfisher trail and the village coffee are all within a few minutes.
